Bend-A-Knee Weekly Sermon 10/19/2023

“Today is the day!”   You may be asking what is so special about today? Well: today is Thursday, October 19, 2023 (just in case you didn’t know). In all of past history there never was, and in all of future history there never will be another Thursday, October 19, 2023. So, what significant act will you undertake today that will allow you to remember this day for the rest of your life? Ok, maybe today will not be the day in which you change the trajectory of your future, but how can you make today count toward advancing God’s Kingdom? Time, is the most precious commodity each person has and it is the great equalizer. No amount of money, fame or authority can grant you more time in a day. Certainly, some people use their time more productively than others but all of us are confined to a span of 24hrs. in a day, no exceptions.

In just a moment of time our lives can be altered significantly for the rest of our time allotted on earth; we have all been reminded of this fact with the recent situation in Israel. In the dawn hours on Saturday, October 7, 2023 the lives of the Israelis’ and the Palestinians was altered forever. Hamas terrorists conducted heinous acts of brutality that would start a chain reaction of events that would alter the course of the lives of millions of Israelis’ and Palestinians for their life time.

Although we are thousands of miles removed from the atrocities that took place, we have been bombarded with images that cannot be erased.

Because the conflict is not on our doorstep, we often downplay the significance but the Apostle Paul reminds us that no matter where we are we are in the midst of a battle (Ephesians 6:12) “We are not fighting against flesh and blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” The battle is all around us. What will it take to awaken us to the war over apathy, our indifference toward those who are eternally lost because no one cared enough to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them.

Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you ask God to give you the wisdom & courage, immersed in love, to be so overwhelmed with concern for the lost that you will boldly proclaim the Kingdom of God. May we be propelled forward by God’s love –

“Today is the Day”

Stay connected to God & to others
