If you could choose the job you would love to do, what would it be? If the pay for this job provided sufficient funds to meet your financial needs and any other obstacle that would prevent you from moving forward and pursuing such a career was eliminated, would you take your dream job?
I can only imagine that if you landed your dream job it would change your image of going to “work” every day. Visualize waking up everyday with excitement because you got the opportunity to go to “work.”
Harvey MacKay stated: “Find something you love to do and you will never work a day in your life.”
For those who are reading this posting am I putting salt on an open wound; is your life miserable because you absolutely hate your job? Our occupations are often used to define us. One of the first questions that others ask if they have not been in contact with you for quite a while is: “What do you do?” The question is a direct reference to the job you have. Your answer impacts the way you are viewed by others. Some occupations invoke respect and admiration while others create a less desirable image.
Labor Day is almost here. Of all our national holidays, Labor Day, is not celebrated as it was intended mostly because people resent the fact that they have to work and very few people actually love their jobs. Many people crave the thought of retirement. They long for that day when they can leave their job behind and enjoy the fruits of their labor – retirement.
Unfortunately, many disciples of Christ view their following of Christ in a similar manner to their jobs. Jesus’ commands become a heavy burden to bear. Being obedient to Christ is considered work. Attending church becomes a chore and looked upon as one’s duty. If one participates in being part of activities associated with church ministry, they promote themselves as a martyr for Christ.
God’s view of service for His Kingdom work is exactly the opposite of most of those who are participating. Remember, God doesn’t need you but has chosen to include you in His service. It is a privilege to participate with God. You have been chosen to join with the Creator to advance His Kingdom, you are an honored participant!
Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you thank God for the privilege of joining with Him in service to the King of kings. Ask God to change your attitude in regard to serving Him. Do not insult your boss, God the Father, by your view of the opportunity of being intentionally included as a coworker with Christ, God the Son, empowered by the Holy Spirit. Rejoice in your chosen status as a Kingdom worker!
Stay connected to God & to others
God’s Peace,
Pastor Mike
