Bend-A-Knee Weekly Sermon 08/10/2023

Did you know that God desires to give you wisdom, in fact James the brother of Jesus writes in his letter to early believers in Christ that if you desire wisdom, you just need to ask for it from God in faith. Godly wisdom is unique from worldly wisdom because it originates with God it also will honor God. Worldly wisdom is centered on honoring oneself. People who exhibit worldly wisdom may be very intelligent, highly educated, street-smart or even have a high degree of “common sense.” The result may be that they are able to navigate life very successfully often being envied by others. Godly wisdom enables one to prepare for eternity. Godly wisdom places a priority on heavenly values over those things the world considers of great worth. Godly wisdom provides the avenue for one to be Christlike in the way they live their life. Godly wisdom is so countercultural that many fear rejection or scorn for not placing a priority on the things that this world values so highly. Godly wisdom goes against the “conventional wisdom” of the day; it is not focused on self-preservation but on furthering the Kingdom of God.

There are those who have been granted godly wisdom but never act upon the wisdom granted to them. They recognize God’s direction and His leading but they do not move forward and take action. Receiving godly wisdom without acting upon His leading is useless. Courage needs to accompany godly wisdom. Courage is often the missing link between knowing what is the right thing to do and actually following through and taking action that will ultimately honor God and His Kingdom.

Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you pray a bold audacious prayer for God to grant you His wisdom and for the courage needed to act upon the wisdom He has granted. If you are bold enough to pray this prayer in sincerity, be ready for God to open your eyes to a new way of thinking and granting you the courage to act upon His leading. Taking action upon His leading may place you in uncomfortable positions possibly even viewed as foolish according to the worlds standards but it will advance God’s Kingdom. Are you bold enough to ask God for His wisdom accompanied by courage? If you are sincere in your request watch out you may become an agent of God – buckle up the adventure is just beginning!

God’s Peace,

Pastor Mike
