Bend-A-Knee Weekly Sermon 04/18/2024

The saying states: “Spring has sprung” The evidence of the validity of the statement is apparent all around us. It is amazing to me how quickly the earth bursts forth with vibrant evidence of life from the sunshine and warmer temperatures. One day things appear barren and the next day new life is bursting forth.

I have some trees around the “Homestead” that look fine, they appear to be strong and healthy but there is no evidence of true life or vitality this spring. I also have some trees that surprised me with the new life bursting forth from their branches. The true evidence of the vitality of the tree is apparent in the life bursting forth from within.

I hear people state all the time that their faith is a private matter. In other words, I am not going to allow my faith to become evident to others. According to Jesus, using the illustration of a tree, that is simply not possible – a tree is identified by its fruit. He went on to say: “just as a tree is identified by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” Jesus was making the case that the evidence of one’s faith is unmistakable and apparent to others. One cannot separate the truth of their faith from their words and actions that is evident to others. Jesus stated that the evidence of one’s fruit will be the determining factor if the tree should be chopped down and thrown into the fire or should be allowed to continue to live and produce good fruit.

(from Mt. 7:15-20)

The reality is that if you are a true disciple of Christ your life will reflect His life within you. It will be apparent to others; it cannot be hidden. The fruit of the Spirit within every believer is meant to be a source of identification of who you are in Christ Jesus. One’s outward physical appearance is not a true indication of the life blood flowing through you, the evidence is in the unmistakable fruit bursting forth from the Holy Spirt that resides within every believer.

Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you thank God for the privilege of allowing His fruit to burst forth as evidence of His life blood within you. May you rejoice in the opportunities available each day to display His fruit for the advancement of His Kingdom.

Stay connected to God & to others

God’s Peace,

Pastor Mike
