Bend-A-Knee Weekly Sermon 04/04/2024

Monday April 8, 2024 is a special day, a total solar eclipse will be visible to a large section of the central and eastern United States. According to James Riordon, a freelance science writer, the total eclipse on April 8 will “ratchet up the experience” compared to the last total eclipse that crossed the United States in 2017. Monday’s eclipse will last longer and the sky will fall darker, and the sun itself will put on a much livelier show.

The eclipse has created a massive amount of attention. Warnings are posted to try and keep people from harming their eyes as they experience the seldom seen phenomena. The next total eclipse visible in the United States will occur in 2044. Those who are fascinated by celestial events have a plethora of anomalies that they are connecting to this event.

It fascinates me that during these types of events someone always seems to start relating whatever natural phenomena is occurring with the end time apocalypse. While I don’t agree with those who are making such predictions, it does allow disciples of Christ the opportunity to share a message of hope in the midst of those who are spreading messages of gloom, doom and despair.

Scripture records Jesus’ words to His followers, of intense persecution and tribulation that they will have to endure. He also provides them with hope to bear under such suffering by describing His glorious return as the conquering King of the universe. Fear seems to always accompany any thought of the end time apocalypse. The truth is that fear doesn’t need to be the default response to thoughts about the end of the world as we understand. Fear can be replaced with anticipation for all those who have made a conscious decision to accept salvation in Christ Jesus.

The foundation for the “end time” events once thought to be beyond comprehension seem to be playing out before us on a routine basis. The responsibility and privilege of proclamation is available for disciples of Christ to share the hope that they have found in Jesus Christ.

Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you ask God to provide an opportunity for you to share the joyous hope that is available in Christ Jesus. We do not know when God will call His followers home but we do know that each day draws us closer to that time. May we take advantage of the opportunities available to proclaim the hope found only in Christ Jesus to others.

Stay connected to God & to others

God’s Peace,

Pastor Mike
