The start of a new year usually brings commitments to make positive changes in one’s life. One of the top concerns that people want to address is in the area of finances. Unfortunately, too many people begin the new year already in financial distress due to overspending at Christmas. The success of any area of positive change in one’s life revolves around establishing a plan that is feasible toward success. There are various ways to address financial concerns; the most promising, starts with minor adjustments that will prove fruitful over time but do not drastically alter one’s lifestyle. Financial investing revolves around gaining a positive return on your investment.
Investing in children should not be viewed in the same light as financial investing but for parents and grandparents there is a similar goal of desiring a positive return from the investment we make into our children. This is probably a bad illustration but if we are honest our desire is for our children and grandchildren to flourish, not in a financial sense but spiritually and emotionally. One of the ways we invest in the next generation is to bathe them in prayer.
This weekend 15 youth and four chaperones from CVZ will travel to Twin Pines Camp, in the Poconos, for a winter retreat. You may not be a parent or grandparent of one of the youths but you certainly have a vested interest in their lives. Often people remark about seeing children and youth in a church setting as the future of that particular church. That statement has some validity but our concern needs to go beyond an individual church body toward the Kingdom of God. Children will grow into adults, get married and have children of their own. Once married they often move away from the church body from which they were raised.
A prayer of investment on behalf of our children and youth expands beyond the sustainability of CVZ, it extends to future generations and the advancement of God’s Kingdom. Remember, it is not about the kingdom of Clark’s Valley, it is about the Kingdom of God.
Today as you consider pausing at noon to Bend-A-Knee in prayer may you uplift our youth and chaperones in regard to the winter retreat this weekend. What a privilege God has granted us to come before His throne Room of Grace on behalf of our youth, chaperones, retreat leaders, and the ministry of Twin Pines Camp as it continues to minister throughout the year.
